WARNING: It takes a moment to load the level

Controls:
WASD or Arrow Keys - Movement
Hold Space to shoot

You play as "Ace" a Space Fighter Pilot in some Space Force (In Space?).

Space Shoota is a Vertical SHMUP (Shoot 'em Up).

Developed for the "VimJam: Collectables"

"Boldly going somewhere... and Back again..."

"Collectables" - are Weapon Powerups and Health Kits

"There and Back" - well you go one direction (to there...) and then you turn around and come Back...

Restrictions Followed:
Theme Party - Arcade Controls Jam
In a Song - Well it is beatable within 1 track (i.e. before it loops)

What I would have tried to do with more time...

At least 1 more level (with at least 1 more boss)

  • A better animation for when you start returning (rather than teleporting the player to the other side of the screen)
  • Made the Explosions better
  • Playtested more, balanced the levels more.
  • redone the scoring system

I'm not a big fan of vertical shoot em ups but i really liked this. The art style is slick and i love how you incorporated the theme, i'll be sure to leave a positive rating!

Here's a link to my game if you'd like to give it a try! https://itch.io/jam/vimjam/rate/762847

Thanks for playing and giving feedback. I too have never really been a bit shoot em up fan especially of the more common "Bullet Hell" variety. The art is either from a Kenney pack, or resized and reskinned (or bashed from it like the boss).

Overall not bad just felt that the movement was a bit slow also an indicator of how much health the enemy has would be nice or some kind of feedback that you are actually damaging the enemy

Thanks for playing and the feedback.

There is a little feedback (puffs of smoke) on hits but I agree it is probably too subtle based on the feedback given so far. if revisited I have some ideas on improvements on this regard.

Enemy health bars were on my could do list... But I ran out of time

yey i won
